Iimis Cafe - Cosmopolitan Cafe with regional flair
Iimis cafe, situated in the heart of Traralgon is a bustling new-age cafe which blends the very best of regional cuisine and country hospitality with a touch of Melbourne's je ne sais quoi..... The locals have definitely given it the thumbs up and it's not hard to see why........ Perhaps it is the open and colourful surrounds and the energetic ambience of the cafe itself or perhaps it is the appeal of fine coffee and varied, affordable and delectable food inspired by the European origins of its owners and the local region.
Peter and Costa Demetrios were already famous in these parts for their skill with the scissors and the warm welcome afforded to guests to their hairdressing salon. They have transferred these skills to the kitchen and the front of house. The aptly named "Iimis" literally translated from the Greek means "us" and the owners invite you to make it hours. The excellent hospitality and diverse range of food certainly makes this possible.
Iimis draws much of its inspiration from the local Gippsland region and from the Greek origins of its owners. The strong Mediterranean flavour is particularly evident in the range of locally bakes and delectable deserts and in signature dishes such as spanakopita and kolokithopita. Mrs Demetrious, Peter and Costa's mother, can vouch for the authenticity of the cuisine, personally overseeing the baking of these classic Greek dishes. The all day menu is extensive and offers a wide range of dishes and prices to suit all takes and pockets. All ingredients are sourced locally, taking advantage of the range and quality of produce for which Gippsland is renowned.
Gippsland wines are showcased on the wine menu, take the time to sample the Paradise Enough Pinot Noir, the Narkoojee Chardonnay or the Wild Dog Unwooded Chardonnay and keep an eye out for the large selection of local organic teas.
